"Fearless Challenges" in Watercolor Journaling"

Susan Liddy, of Aspire Life Coaching.org, asked Gay and Christina to teach a short two-hour version of our "Illustrated Watercolor Journaling" class. We liked the idea of introducing our concepts as a "Fearless Challenge" since we spend a lot of time in our classes encouraging students to try something new! Susan, a professional certified life coach will coach students through the various issues that come up around drawing, writing and painting.
If you've always wanted to take one of our classes, but you've never wanted to take a whole day or a 6-week class, this might be the ideal class for you!
As with all of our classes, no previous art experience required!

"Collage & Journaling"
One-day Workshop

In this class we experiment with new ways of playing with your journal. We will teach our latest collage techniques including blender pen transfers, wax resist, spackle texturing, watercolor rubber stamping, tape transfer, and more!
You might want to bring some photos, scraps of memorabilia, etc. that you'd like to make into a particular theme page. We will be working at a size of 5.5 inches x 7.5 inches – the same size as our normal watercolor pages. We'll have all sorts of things to play with: old magazines, lots of scraps of wall paper, tissue paper, pens, watercolors, stamps, various mediums, crayons – lots of things to add texture to your pages. There will be lots of time to create and explore…
Class will be held in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California at Skyland Church in Whittaker Hall.

We have been looking to have a retreat like this for years! This is for those of you who would like to spend more time learning drawing, watercoloring and journaling through the techniques we teach in "Illustrated Watercolor Journaling" over an entire weekend.
We will be staying at the lovely and historic Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA. Check-in is 3pm on Friday, Nov 7th. We will have a short class on the first evening. We will have a full day of instruction, demos, on Saturday, including plenty of time to explore the grounds and get some great pages into your journals. We will have final instruction on Sunday morning, including time to complete pages in your journal and share with the class.
Cost: $510, includes class instruction, double occupancy accomodations for two nights at Asilomar, meals throughout the weekend, and use of class art supplies. Doesn't include wine/beer with meals. Upon registration, please note in the comment field if you are signing up with a friend with whom you would like to share a room. Otherwise a roommate will be assigned. Only 12 spaces available.
If you live in the area and would like to join us for the instruction, cost is $390 including meals, or $310 without any meals. Only 4 spaces available.
This retreat is for beginners who have never taken one of our classes before or previous students who want to sharpen their skills all in a beautiful setting.
Art materials will be provided for use during the weekend. We will also have a materials list, if you wish to purchase your own, as well as supplies for sale during the weekend.

Illustrated Watercolor Journaling
Ever want to take one of our classes over a period of a few weeks, so that you can try your skills out and come back for more? We have just the thing!
We are teaching a six week long Illustrator Watercolor Journaling class through our local Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education & Recreation department in a classroom setting. The content will be much the same as the day long class, but with some additional homework, and a few new tricks up our sleeves.
Come to get those drawing, painting and journaling skills really moving! Get lots of feedback (the non-scary kind!), get lots of practice, see your progression, and start filling in those journal pages!
Our 6 week classes will be held in Los Gatos during 2006:

NEW CLASS: Illustrated Watercolor Journaling "On the Town"
For those of you who've already taken our 6-week class, or our day-long workshop, we have another way to keep your journaling skills sharp. Illustrated Watercolor Journaling on the Town is a new class offered through the Rec. Department where we take your journaling skills out on the town of Los Gatos! Many students feel uncomfortable journaling in public; join us so that we can do it together!
We will be demonstrating many drawing and painting techniques while we gather in interesting and fun locations in Los Gatos. Come with questions, ideas to share, enthusiasm for creative capturing of your experiences and a little cash if you'd like coffee or treats at the cafes we might drop in on. Bring your own watercolor journaling supplies (book, paints, brush, pens, etc). No material fee.

"On the Town"
NOTE NEW START TIME! June 6 - July 18, 2008: Friday afternoons, 3:30pm - 5:00pm in the Los Gatos First meeting at the Neighborhood Center: downtown Los Gatos next to the library; Room 3, then following meetings at pre-determined cafes & scenic spots around Los Gatos. (no class on July 4th)
Registration for Rec Dept Classes
All class costs $86 for residents to be paid to the Los Gatos Recreation Department. For "Illustrated Watercolor Journaling", there is an additional $15 material fee paid directly to us, the instructors, at the first class. The "On the Town" class has no material fee, although you will probably want to bring a little of money for a snack!
NEW!! DROP IN to our Rec Department classes.
You can drop-in to our Illustrated Watercolor Journaling class for $20 a session payable in class. This includes your material fee for that day.
If you are interested in seeing what we do "On the Town," drop-in to "On the Town" class for $18 a session. Location for the session will be posted on the blackboard in room 206 in the Neighborhood Center, or you can send an email requesting location to: christina@watercolorjournaling.com.
